Personnel in the Information Technology (IT) Career provide services that build a foundation for the Intelligence Community's mission of intelligence gathering, analysis, and reporting. The breadth and depth of opportunities available within the Community are staggering. Work may include providing customer support, designing and monitoring telecommunications networks, maintaining computer hardware and software, data management, strategic planning, ensuring information and systems security, or designing sophisticated Automated Information Systems (AIS) for intelligence customers.

If you are looking for challenging and diverse work opportunities that make a real contribution to the security of our nation, look no further. Information Technology never looked so good! In addition to the diversity of available work assignments, professionals in this career may work with some of the most advanced computer systems in the world, including Microsoft, Sun, Intel, Dell, Cisco, and IBM. For those interested, travel opportunities may be available. In addition, the Intelligence Community encourages continual learning. Such learning can take place in a variety of forums from on-the-job training in teaming environments or continuing education opportunities within the Community or the private sector.

IT professionals possess a number of skills depending on their specific focus within the Community. Important skills include Application Programming, Cable Installation, Computer File Maintenance, Configuration Management, Component Testing, Database Engineering, Hardware Engineering, Installation, Information Security, Life Cycle Management, Networks Engineering, Security Engineering, Software Engineering, System Testing and Evaluation, Systems Programming, Technical Assistance, Technical Assessment, and Troubleshooting and Repairing. Agencies may require a bachelor's degree or related experience in computer science, computer engineering, or network engineering. Individuals may gain entry into this career through Computer Assistant or Technician roles. IT professionals are also employed in several of the other careers such as Intelligence Analysis, Information Services, and Security.

US citizenship is required. All applicants must successfully complete an extensive background investigation. Some positions may also require medical and psychological examinations and a polygraph interview.
