Security professional are entrusted to protect information, people, property, facilities, operations and material from unauthorized disclosure, misuse, theft, assault, vandalism, espionage, sabotage or loss. It is divided into three types: personnel security, physical security and information security.

Personnel security involves evaluating the character, background, and history of employees and applicants for access to classified information. Physical security involves developing and implementing physical barriers and alarm systems. Information security focuses on controlling access to sensitive information, classified documents, and media.
