Students

Are you interested in a career in the IC? Students can contribute to the work of the nation before they graduate through paid and unpaid summer internship programs with the IC. Some IC organizations also offer internships during the academic year or co-operative education programs that link a student’s major with relevant work experience. Most of the co-op programs are for college-level students; however, NSA has several programs for high school students with specific skills or interests.

IC internships and student programs are highly competitive, with application deadlines six to nine months prior to the work period. You will be expected to meet the same employment standards as permanent employees, including a background investigation for a security clearance. Foreign language skills, previous study or residency abroad, and military service are beneficial. Some agencies require medical examinations in addition to a background investigation.
